Overview

POS Geofencing answers a problem that is hard to solve with Odoo access rights alone: a cashier account is valid wherever it is used. Rights say who may open the till, not where. This module adds the missing half by checking the device's GPS position against a radius you define for each Point of Sale.

Built by TechUltra Solutions, it gives three responses rather than one, because an off-site device is not always an incident. Block Access prevents the POS opening at all. Read-only Mode lets staff look up products and past orders while refusing add-to-cart and payment. Force Exit POS tracks position continuously and closes the session the moment a user leaves the radius.

GPS accuracy varies between laptops, tablets and phones, so the module applies an accuracy buffer rather than treating every reading as exact — which is what stops a legitimate cashier being thrown out by a noisy fix. Startup checks, ongoing location updates and fence violations are all written to the backend logs, so there is a record of what happened and when.

Key features

  • Per-store GPS radius

Set centre coordinates — latitude and longitude — and an allowed radius in metres for each Point of Sale configuration.

  • Block Access mode

Prevents the Point of Sale opening at all when the device is outside the permitted area.

  • Read-only Mode

Lets staff view products and orders outside the area while blocking add-to-cart and payment actions, so lookups still work but sales cannot be taken.

  • Force Exit POS

Tracks location in the background during the session and closes the POS automatically when the user leaves the permitted radius.

  • GPS accuracy buffer

A tolerance buffer compensates for the accuracy differences between laptops, tablets and smartphones, so ordinary GPS noise does not eject a legitimate cashier.

  • Event audit logging

Startup checks, continuous location updates and fence violation events are recorded in the backend logs.

  • Native Point of Sale integration

Works inside the standard Odoo Point of Sale interface without changing the cashier's normal workflow.

Setup & configuration

From install to first call — here is the path.

  1. 1

    Install the module

In Odoo, open Apps, remove the Apps filter, search for “POS Geofencing”, and click Install.

  2. 2

Set the store's coordinates and radius

Open the Point of Sale configuration and enter the centre latitude and longitude along with the allowed radius in metres.

  3. 3

Choose the action for out-of-area devices

Pick Block Access, Read-only Mode, or Force Exit POS depending on how strictly the location should be enforced.

  4. 4

Allow location access on the device

The browser asks the cashier's device for location permission. Geofencing depends on that permission being granted.

Frequently asked questions

  • How does the module know where the device is?

It reads the device's GPS coordinates through the browser and compares them against the centre point and radius configured on the Point of Sale. Location permission has to be granted on the device for the check to run.

  • What happens when a cashier is outside the allowed area?

That depends on the mode you choose. Block Access prevents the POS opening. Read-only Mode allows viewing products and orders but blocks add-to-cart and payment. Force Exit POS closes the session automatically when the user leaves the radius during a session.

  • Will normal GPS inaccuracy lock out a legitimate cashier?

The module applies an accuracy buffer that compensates for the differences between laptops, tablets and smartphones, so ordinary variation in a GPS fix does not trigger a violation. Set the radius with a sensible margin for your premises rather than to the metre.

  • Can different shops have different areas?

Yes. The centre coordinates, radius and action mode are set per Point of Sale configuration, so each store enforces its own area.

  • Is there a record of violations?

Yes. Startup checks, ongoing location updates and fence violation events are written to the backend logs.

  • Does it work with Restaurant POS?

The module integrates with Odoo Point of Sale, so it applies to POS sessions generally. Confirm your specific configuration with us before purchase if Restaurant-only behaviour is critical to your rollout.

  • Which Odoo versions are supported?

The module supports Odoo 16.0, 17.0, 18.0, 19.0, and 20.0, in both the Community and Enterprise editions.

  • Is support included?

Yes. The module includes 90 days of bug-fix support, Monday to Friday, 10:00–19:00 IST.
