What Odoo actually is (and isn't)
Odoo is a modular ERP platform. That's three claims, each worth unpacking.
Modular: Odoo ships as a set of separate apps that share one database, one UI, and one user model. Install only what you need. Add more later without re-platforming. Each app is a Python module — the Odoo App Store has 40,000+ community modules on top of the 80+ official ones, plus you can write your own.
ERP: Enterprise Resource Planning — a single system that runs your operational core (sales, inventory, manufacturing, finance, HR) so the data doesn't live in five disconnected tools. Odoo competes head-to-head with SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, and Sage in the SME and mid-market segments.
