Pain points & how Odoo solves them
-
Food cost surprises blow up monthly P&L
Recipe-based inventory tracks theoretical vs. actual food cost per dish. Variance alerts surface yield drift, theft, or recipe deviation within days of occurrence.
-
Kitchen orders chaotic during peak hours
Odoo POS with Kitchen Display System (KDS) routes orders to the right station automatically. Course pacing, modifiers, and special requests all visible.
-
Restaurant chain loyalty program inconsistent across outlets
Centralized loyalty + customer data syncs across outlets. Customers earn and redeem points anywhere; tiers and rewards configured at HQ.
-
Delivery aggregator orders don't reconcile against payouts
Two-way sync with Zomato, Swiggy, UberEats. Orders, commissions, and payouts auto-reconcile so finance team sees actual margins, not gross sales.
-
Hotel PMS and accounting are completely separate
Two-way integration with Mews/Cloudbeds/SiteMinder. Folios feed Odoo accounting; F&B charges from POS post to room.

Frequently asked questions
-
Does Odoo POS work for restaurants specifically?
Yes — Odoo Restaurant POS includes table management, kitchen display routing, modifiers, course pacing, split bills, and tip handling. It's not as polished as dedicated restaurant POS systems (Toast, Square Restaurant) on niche features but it's the only POS that's natively unified with your inventory, accounting, and ERP.
-
Can Odoo handle recipe-based food costing?
Yes — recipes are BOMs with measured ingredients. Each dish sold decrements ingredient inventory by recipe quantity. Theoretical food cost (recipe cost) vs. actual food cost (COGS from inventory movements) variance reports surface drift weekly. Yield adjustments per ingredient handle real-world prep loss.
-
Does Odoo integrate with delivery aggregators?
Yes — we integrate with Zomato, Swiggy, UberEats, and DoorDash. Orders flow into Odoo POS for kitchen routing; commissions and payouts auto-reconcile so finance sees actual margin per outlet per channel. Some aggregators have better APIs than others; we audit before quoting.
-
Can Odoo run a hotel?
Odoo isn't a PMS — it doesn't handle reservations, room blocks, or front-desk workflow. We integrate with PMS (Mews, Cloudbeds, SiteMinder) so the PMS handles guest-facing operations and Odoo handles inventory, F&B POS, accounting, and back-office functions.
-
How is loyalty handled across outlets?
Centralized loyalty: customers earn and redeem at any outlet, tiers configured at HQ, points balances sync in real time. Customer data unified across POS, online ordering, and CRM. Marketing automation triggers based on visit frequency, spend, and recency.
-
What about kitchen-display hardware?
Odoo's KDS runs on tablets or dedicated screens. We've deployed iPad-based KDS for fast-casual, Android tablets for cloud kitchens, and dedicated KDS hardware for fine dining. Hardware choice depends on environment (heat/grease tolerance, mounting, connectivity).

Implementation timeline for hospitality?
Single restaurant: 8–12 weeks. Multi-outlet chain (5–10 outlets): 14–18 weeks. Hotel group with PMS integration: 16–22 weeks. Delivery aggregator integrations add 1–2 weeks each. Recipe-based inventory adds 2–3 weeks for menu engineering and BOM creation.
