Which Odoo modules handle GST, e-invoicing and e-way bill?
Five modules from Odoo's India localisation do the work. The names below are the ones in Odoo's India documentation.
| Module | Technical name | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Indian - Accounting | l10n_in | GST taxes, chart of accounts, place of supply, HSN/SAC and TDS/TCS |
| Indian E-invoicing | l10n_in_edi | Sends posted invoices to the IRP and stores the IRN, acknowledgement and QR code |
| Indian E-waybill | l10n_in_ewaybill | Creates e-way bills from customer invoices and vendor bills |
| Indian E-waybill Stock | l10n_in_ewaybill_stock | Creates e-way bills from deliveries in the Inventory app |
| Indian - Accounting Reports | l10n_in_reports | GST return filing (GSTR-1, GSTR-2B matching) and Indian tax reports |
How do you set up e-invoicing and e-way bill in Odoo?
- Enter your company's GSTIN and state, and switch on Registered Under GST in Accounting settings.
- Set the GST service provider (GSP) to BVM IT Consulting, the provider Odoo connects through.
- On the NIC e-invoice portal and the NIC e-way bill portal, create an API user for each.
- Enter those usernames and passwords in the Indian Integration section of Accounting settings.
- Test with the production environment off, then tick Production Environment to go live.
- Post a test invoice: Odoo sends it to the IRP and prints the IRN, acknowledgement number and QR code on the PDF.
When a first invoice is rejected, the cause is usually master data rather than the connection: a customer with no state, a product with no HSN code, or a GSTIN entered on the wrong branch. We clean those up before the live switch.
What can you do for GST returns from Odoo?
- File GSTR-1 from Odoo's GSTR-1 report, built from your posted invoices.
- Fetch GSTR-2B and reconcile it against your vendor bills before you claim input tax credit.
- Pull e-invoices your vendors have reported and turn them into draft vendor bills.
- Check a customer's or vendor's GSTIN status before you invoice them.

GST e-invoicing in Odoo: common questions
-
Does Odoo support GST e-invoicing in India?
Yes. Odoo's India localisation includes an e-invoicing module (l10n_in_edi) that sends each posted invoice to the Invoice Registration Portal (IRP) and stores the IRN, acknowledgement number and signed QR code on the invoice. E-way bills are created from the invoice or the delivery, and GSTR-1 can be filed from Odoo.
-
Is e-invoicing mandatory for my business?
It is if your aggregate turnover exceeded ₹5 crore in any financial year since 2017-18, counted across all GSTINs under your PAN. Once you cross it, e-invoicing stays mandatory even if turnover falls later. Below the threshold you can keep issuing ordinary GST invoices.
-
What is the 30-day rule for e-invoices?
Since 1 April 2025, if your aggregate annual turnover is ₹10 crore or more, the IRP will not accept an invoice, credit note or debit note more than 30 days after its date. Odoo sends the invoice to the IRP when it is posted, so the rule only bites if invoices sit in draft or are backdated.
-
Can Odoo create e-way bills from deliveries, not just invoices?
Yes. The Indian E-waybill module creates an e-way bill from a confirmed customer invoice or vendor bill, and the Indian E-waybill Stock module creates one from a delivery in Inventory — useful for stock transfers between branches and for goods sent before they are invoiced.
-
Do we need a separate GSP subscription?
Odoo connects to the IRP and the e-way bill system through BVM IT Consulting as its GST service provider, configured inside Odoo. You need API users on the NIC e-invoice and e-way bill portals, which you create yourself with your GSTIN login. Odoo's documentation covers both steps.
-
Can we move from Tally without breaking e-invoicing?
Yes. In our Tally to Odoo projects, GSTINs, HSN codes, party masters and opening balances move first, e-invoicing is tested against the NIC test system, and only then does the live IRP connection go on. Your CA signs off the first GST return filed from Odoo. See the India packages.
